Report a stolen phone and its IMEI
Your carrier or local authorities may ask for the phone's IMEI or serial number when you report theft. Keep the number in a safe record; it is an identifier, not a public tracking password.
What to do
Find the device record, packaging or account page that shows its identifier.
Contact your carrier and follow local reporting requirements; provide the identifier through official channels.
If it’s not that simple
An identifier is not a tracking password
IMEI or serial
Identifies the device for a carrier or authorised report.
Your account password
Not something to submit to a third-party IMEI form.
A report reference
Save it separately so follow-up does not depend on the missing handset.
Good to know
An IMEI does not give a consumer website direct access to a live location.
